Lockdowns, loneliness and illumination
It’s a weird time right now. Last year as the lockdown in Melbourne was settling in for the long haul it seemed like there was still light at the end of the tunnel. We were in it together and we would get back to zero cases of COVID and return to some level of normal. And that’s exactly what happened! By November we were emerging from lockdown a little bruised but hopeful, there was a vaccine coming, we wouldn’t have to endure this again. Come 2021 festivals and live gigs will return, we will be able to tour and collaborate in person, life will begin to return to normal.
Sadly that wasn’t to be the case as 2021 has served up much of the same as 2020, but this time it’s NSW, ACT and VIC who are enduring lengthy lockdowns. But as vaccinations rates increase the path forward is becoming clearer – we just need to hang in there!
The music industry has had such a difficult time over the last 18 months – but while we know the loneliness has been hard to deal with at times, it’s been so incredible to witness the level of creativity that so many of you possess. We’ve been delighted to assist in the manufacture of some truly amazing projects, made all the more special because they have been completed in less than ideal circumstances.
For us seeing the ways in which bands have managed to continue to play together while in different locations, how writing collaborations have blossomed despite distance and how home recording has born some truly inspiring projects has been a privilege. We are grateful to all of you who have kept coming back to us to take care of making your work into a tangible reality.
With love,
Pete and Mel
